OTS restructures program to increase quality, quantity of officers

The Air Force’s Officer Training School is changing the paradigm for building officers, pivoting away from separate programs for line and non-line officers and conducting merged classes beginning in January 2019.

First Sergeant Academy to increase course length, improve skills

The Air Force’s First Sergeant Academy is increasing resident class length to four weeks to help fuel the Chief of Staff of the Air Force’s initiative to revitalize squadrons.   The updated curriculum starting Oct. 22, will now focus more on hands-on, scenario-based training to better prepare first sergeants for their role in the squadron command

There are many ways to distinguish yourself from a group of people. Maybe you’re the smartest, most athletic or funniest person in a group. Maybe you have a different background or speak a different language. If you’re Gabirele McStanislav-Cudjoe, a cadet in Air Force Officer Training School, you’re from a different country, your first spoken language isn’t English and you came from a different branch of the U.S. military. Of all the differences between McStanislav-Cudjoe and his fellow cadets, however, the one thing that truly makes him stand out is his heart.

Air University focused on deterrence

The end of the Cold War, coupled with the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, caused American decision-makers to focus on present-day conflicts, but a resurgent Russia, the rise of new non-state actors and new threats in the cyber realm have brought about a renewed focus on the concept of deterrence, according to faculty and researchers at Air University.
