Team BLAZE to observe POW/MIA Recognition Day
One of the many ways Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, remember POWs/MIAs is the Richard “Gene” Smith Plaza. Smith was an F-105 Thunderchief pilot who was shot down Oct. 25, 1967 on a mission to bomb the Paul Doumer Bridge in North Vietnam. He was captured and held for five and a half years before he was released by his captors. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Beaux Hebert)
