Base, community honors Schafer after reaching 'High Flight'

Columbus Air Force Base Airmen salute for the playing of Taps during a memorial service Sept. 19 at Smith Plaza. The service was dedicated to remembering Maj. Richard Schafer, 49th Fighter Trainer Squadron. Shafer was known by his friends and fellow pilots as “Tracer.” He is a decorated Air Force Veteran with over 2,000 flight hours in the F-16 and T-38.
