Four wing commanders visited Columbus AFB Monday through Wednesday for a Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training commander's summit.

Col. Richard Clark, 12th Flying Training Wing commander, Randolph AFB, Texas, Col. Richard Klumpp, 71st Flying Training Wing commander, Vance AFB, Okla., Col. Mike Minahan, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, Laughlin AFB, Texas, and Col. David Petersen, 80th Flying Training Wing commander, Sheppard AFB, Texas, all attended the summit hosted by Col. Dave Gerber, 14th Flying Training Wing commander.

This is the first summit of this kind. The intent is to have the wing commanders meeting periodically and each commander hosting the event at their base.

The purpose of the summit was to create a cross flow of ideas between the five wings, that have very similar missions. It was also an opportunity for the commanders to share program ideas that have worked at their bases and build a consensus to shape the AETC staff vector for SUPT.

While here the other commanders were able to see the operations and facilities of Columbus AFB. They were also able to experience the see first hand the local community of Columbus, Miss., and their involvement with the base.

The commanders took a tour of the Radar and Approach Control building, the new Crash, Fire and Rescue Station, Kaye Auditorium and the Montgomery Village. They also toured each of the flying squadrons and met with the flying squadron commanders.

CAFB was able to help Col. Petersen maintain his flying currency by letting him fly a T-6 instructor sortie while he was here. Although Col. Petersen is a fully qualified T-6 instructor pilot, Sheppard AFB will not receive their first T-6 until early next year.
