A large crowd of flag football enthusiasts came to watch the 14th Operations Support Squadron team #1 compete against the 14th Medical Group for the intramural flag football championship game Oct. 11. Familiar faces such as Col. Susan Hall, 14th Medical Group commander, Col. Mark Brown, 14th Mission Support Group commander, and Col. Eric Theisen, 14th Operations Group commander, were just a few of fans that came out to show their support and enjoy one of the first crisp evenings of October. It was a perfect night for a football game and the teams arrived eager to play.

The 14th MDG had the games first possession, but turned the ball over on downs early. The 14th OSS took over and with a blend of power and speed, quarterback, Nelson Prouty, and Michael Greenaway moved the ball 50 yards down the field in just two plays. However, the drive was stalled when the 14th MDG intercepted a pass in the end zone and carried the ball back to the 30 yard line. The defenses on both teams then tightened resulting in a series of short drives and punt exchanges.

Finally, Chris Sutton, 14th OSS, made an impressive interception and returned it all the way for the first touchdown of the game. Prouty, then, dropped back and drilled a pass to Mark Hancock for the two point conversion giving the 14th OSS an 8-0 lead which is where the score stood at half time.

The 14th OSS received the ball to start the second half and gained 26 yards before the 14th MDG took over and placed the ball in the hands of their quarterback, Christian Jackson. A short pass from Jackson to Todd Hadley resulted in a 10 yard gain followed by 35 yard dash by Jackson who reversed field, stormed through a hole on the right side, and outran the 14th OSS defense to the end zone. It brought the 14th MDG just two points away from tying up the score, but the conversion effort failed leaving the score 8-6 in favor of the 14th OSS.

The energy on the field was intense with both teams battling for control. Late in the game the 14th OSS took over and Mac made a few quick spins and pushed the ball to the 40 yard line. The 14th OSS eventually advanced the ball to the 5 yard line before Dave Brown ran it in for the 14th OSS's second and final touchdown.

The 14th MDG was down by eight points with three minutes to make a quick comeback. The 14th MDG collaboratively gained 20 more yards, but unfortunately for them, it would be their last move towards victory. The 14th OSS ran out the clock and won the closely contested game by a final score of 14-6.

Trophies were awarded to both teams from Col. Brown to honor and recognize the skills and athleticism that can be found among the people working at Columbus AFB. In the end, it was a hard fought game enjoyed by participants and fans.
