MDG claims repeat championship Published Feb. 22, 2008 By Andrew Pace 14th Services Division COLUMBUS AFB, Miss. -- The 14th Medical Group defeated the 37th/41st Flying Training Squadron in the Intramural Basketball Championship Tuesday night. It was a battle of tournament underdogs with the 14th MDG vs. the 37th/41st FTS. Sports fans including Col. Susan Hall, 14th MDG commander, Col. Mark Brown, 14th Mission Support Group commander, and Col. Eric Theisen, 14th Operations Group commander, came to watch a battle for bragging rights, commanders' points and trophies. The 14th MDG claimed the victory defeating the 37th/41st FTS with a final score 56 to 43. Both teams fought competitively with identical regular season records of 6-4. The 14th MDG had a slow start, after the first four games they were1-3 to begin the season. Fortunately for the 14th MDG, they hit a winning streak and won five of the following six games into the tournament and knocked out, 14th Security Forces Squadron, the No. 2 seed with a 9-1 record. The 37th/41st FTS had a relatively more consistent season and beat the undefeated DynCorp, No. 1 seed with a 10-0 record, twice in the tournament. The game was a hard played game by both teams. The score stayed close through out most of the game. At half time the 14th MDG was only one point over the 37th/41st FTS with the score 22 to 21. The 37th/41st FTS fought hard to stay in the game but the 14th MDG rallied and went 14 for 16 at the free throw line. Trophies are awarded to the top three teams for the season. Congratulations and thanks to every squadron that fielded a team this year. It was an exciting ending to a great season that was enjoyed by players and fans alike.
