“Black Hawk Down” tickets available

Retired Army Staff Sgt. Matt Eversmann, who was portrayed in the film "Black Hawk Down," will be the keynote speaker for the YMCA annual benefit dinner and meeting April 25 at the Trotter Convention Center.

Free tickets are available, purchased by the 14th Flying Training Wing commander, Col. Dave Gerber, to enlisted Airman that would like to attend the event. If interested, please contact your First Sergeant for a ticket. Tickets are limited.

Ticket holders will be able to listen to the speech from the balcony of the Trotter. Entry time for those ticket holders is 7:50 p.m. Dress is Sunday casual.

Sergeant Eversmann will deliver his speech, "Dedication, Pride and Commitment: The Story of Black Hawk Down," where he will focus on three attributes that brought him home alive: leadership, courage and selfless service.

The story of Black Hawk Down came from the 18 traumatic hours U.S. soldiers in Somalia were trapped inside a hostile district of Mogadishu.

Sergeant Eversmann has many military decorations including the Army Service Ribbon, The National Defense Service Ribbon, eight Army Achievement medals, four Army Commendation medals, a Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

He has lectured students at the Air Force Academy, Annapolis and West Point, been a ROTC instructor at Johns Hopkins University and appeared on Larry King Live and Dateline with Stone Phillips. He has also written a book entitled "The Battle of Mogadishu."
