Triathlon brings out competitors Published June 4, 2008 By Natalie Shovelain 14th Force Support Squadron COLUMBUS AFB, Miss. -- The Fitness Center hosted their first annual triathlon Saturday. The triathlon consisted of three events which included a 750 m lap swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run. Supports came out early to watch the 38 participants compete. Some of the participants were Lt. Col. Jose Aleman, 14th Force Support Squadron commander, Lt. Col. Patrice Melançon, 14th Civil Engineer Squadron commander, and Major Randy McCalip, 14th Medical Operations Squadron. On average, participants finished the race in one hour and 27 minutes. However, Andrew Murphy had the best overall time and completed the race in one hour and six minutes. The award ceremony started immediately after the completion, where the top male and female finishers per age group, top three male and female finishers overall, top male and female military members were awarded plaques and medals. Fitness Center Director, Carmine Muscarella, said he was very pleased with overall execution of the race and would like to thank everyone who participated and the volunteers who made it a valued event.
