1st Lt. Michael Fleharty and 1st Lt. Nick Kellenbence, 37th Flying Training Squadron Instructor Pilots stand at the finish line of the Pikes Peak Ascent in Colorado Springs, Col. on Aug. 20 after racing 13.32 miles of mountainous terrain with an elevation gain of 7,815 feet. Kellenbence completed the race in 4:03:24 and finished 445 out of 1,704 competitors. Fleharty finished with a time of 3:09:24 and taking 70 out of 1,704 and breaking the30 year-old Mississippi state record for the race of 3:11:54 set back in 1981.
