One thoughtful gift can warm a child’s heart Published Nov. 26, 2013 By Senior Airman Kaleb Snay 14 Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- As the time of gift giving approaches, many families prepare by doing some early shopping, others may be waiting for that special discount, but it's important to remember that some families won't have the opportunity this year. In support of those families in need, team BLAZE's First Sergeant Council in coordination with the Exchange has set up the annual angel tree inside the Exchange foyer from Nov. 27 to Dec. 18. "The angel tree is a huge initiative for the Columbus Air Force Base community to show their support and boost morale," said Master Sgt. Jeremy Heideman, 14th Force Support Squadron First Sergeant. "As you enter the foyer you'll see a tree covered in angels. These angels have a child in the Team Blaze community that you can assist." There is no personal information needed to donate and there is no minimum or maximum donation amount, said Heideman. Approximately 90 angels are expected based off last year's event. "Anyone on base can grab an angel and help support a child," said Heideman. "Just remember to leave your gift with an Exchange staff member and let them know it's for the angel tree that runs in conjunction with Operation WarmHeart ." Operation WarmHeart is a year-round program. The most visible programs come at the end of the year during the holidays when the Council provides meals and baskets of food during Thanksgiving and Christmas. "It's an Air Force wide initiative to care for our total force Airmen and Families," said Master Sgt. Shawn Andrews, 14th Medical Group First Sergeant. "Throughout the year, the First Sergeants hold several fundraisers in support of Operation WarmHeart." As we delve more into the holiday season, remember that a simple gift from you can bring a smile to a child's face.
