Gen. (Ret.) Norton Schwartz, Former Chief of Staff of the Air Force, was the keynote speaker at the Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training Class 14-10 June 13 at the Graduation Ceremony in the Kaye Auditorium.

Schwartz, who joked with the class that he graduated from a similar pilot training class around 40 years ago at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas., was at the graduation to also see his wife's godson walk across the stage and receive his silver pilots wings.

Schwartz was the Chief of Staff of the Air Force from 2008-2012. While in that position, the general and other service chiefs functioned as military advisers to the Secretary of Defense, National Security Council and the President.

Schwartz said that he would describe his trip to Columbus Air Force Base as fun and that it was a joy to be here. Schwartz and his family plan to attend all the graduation activities and will depart the Columbus, Miss. area tomorrow.
