Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody and his wife, retired Chief Master Sgt. Athena Cody, visited the Airmen and families of Columbus Air Force Base Sept. 24-25.

During their visit, the Codys met with Airmen, civilians and spouses across the 14th Flying Training Wing to discuss Air Force key issues, Team BLAZE issues, local success stories and more.

Together, they held an enlisted All Call and also met with the Columbus AFB Sexual Assault Response Coordinator's office, 37th and 41st Flying Training Squadron members, 14th Mission Support Group members, and wing chief master sergeants and first sergeants. They also spent time connecting with local civic leaders at a dinner off base.

Though most of their time was spent together, they also visited key groups and locations separately.

The chief master sergeant of the Air Force spoke with the Team BLAZE Focus Group, a group recently assembled to discuss improving the quality of life for Columbus AFB Airmen, retirees, spouses, family members and civilian employees. He toured the 14th Medical Group, including the newly-renovated Koritz Clinic. He also spent time with Airmen in the 14th Security Forces Squadron, 14th Operations Support Squadron, 14th FTW Staff Agencies, and a selected group of Team BLAZE junior Airmen.

When not with the chief, Mrs. Cody met with a focus group of spouses and with key leadership spouses to discuss quality of life for the base and how the wing takes care of Airmen and their families. She spoke with the chapel staff about their marriage and family enrichment programs, as well as with the Airman and Family Readiness Center about their deployed family support, Airman and family support programs and other ways the center focuses on caring for Airmen and their families. She also discussed housing challenges with housing residents and the housing manager during a windshield tour of the base's privatized housing.

Before they departed, the chief and Mrs. Cody thanked Team BLAZE for their hard work and dedication to the mission.
