Gen. Robin Rand, Commander of Air Education and Training Command, spoke to the Air Force's newest pilots during Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training Class 15-04's graduation Jan. 23.

The general and Chief Master Sgt. Gerardo Tapia, AETC Command Chief, visited Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, Jan. 22-23.

The AETC commander began his speech by urging the new pilots to look back.

"Take time to reflect on your recent accomplishments; this is a big deal," Rand said. "You have earned it. There will be more successes in your future, but few things will exceed the pride and sense of accomplishment of getting your Air Force wings."

The general continued to express to the young aviators that earning wings is only the beginning of their challenges.

"Get ready, because you haven't seen anything yet," he said. "SUPT is just the beginning of a long list of successes and of challenges that are awaiting you. Very soon you will start training in aircraft with capabilities that wildly exceed that of those I started flying 36 years ago."

Rand explained that the pilots are ready for the challenges ahead because they were trained by the best-of-the-best instructor pilots.

"Your new graduates have been trained by the best there is to offer," Rand said. "They are highly skilled, and the vast majority of them have been combat tested. They are solely devoted to training the world's greatest aviators."

The AETC commander encouraged the new graduates to continue to be good leaders throughout their careers.

"I ask each of you to recommit yourselves to being effective role-models and leaders, in the air and on the ground," Rand said. "Lead by learning what your non-rated counterparts are doing. Learn their names and their spouse's names; thank the defender who is guarding the flightline. Lead by being gracious and humble when you utilize our mission support and medical facilities."

The general concluded his speech by congratulating the class and continuing to urge them to strive for excellence.

"I now pass the baton to each of you in Class 15-04," Rand said. "To carry on the fight, the real fight against our nation's enemies, stand tall and be proud today. You have become aviators in the world's greatest Air Force. It is a noble and honorable calling, so continue to commit yourselves to excellence."

During their visit, the general and chief also met with numerous Airmen from various organizations and ranks across Team BLAZE, and attended an off-base community reception.
