COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. – The 14th Flying Training Wing hosted the inaugural Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Induction ceremony specifically for the ranks of Staff Sergeant and Technical Sergeant on Nov. 30, 2023 at the Columbus Community Event Center.

Columbus AFB followed in the footsteps of Luke AFB and Nellis AFB with a formal induction ceremony for the junior NCO ranks.

Traditionally, all enlisted ranks are recognized during a monthly promotion ceremony with a follow-on Senior NCO Induction ceremony for the ranks of Master Sergeant through Chief Master Sergeant.

Thirteen Columbus AFB Airmen were formally inducted into the NCO corps after completion of the NCO Foundations Course 500.

The new initiative is expected to become a permanent event at CAFB to recognize the achievements, advancement of technical skills and transition to first-line supervisors to support the 14th Flying Training Wing mission of training world class pilots.

The NCO Foundations Course 500 replaces the base level NCO Professional Enhancement Seminar and will be a prerequisite for the Noncommissioned Officer Academy. The course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to lead by setting the example. It also enhances the students’ capacity to continually advance factors that shape organizational culture, offer guidance that empowers students to reflect on their behaviors in relation to the Airmen Leadership Qualities and facilitate students’ comprehension of techniques that contribute to establishing robust networks. The course also assists students in grasping the connection between attention to detail, establishing impactful communication and fostering a culture of trust, while promoting the realization that asking the appropriate questions involves understanding how to utilize the answers effectively.
