Mandatory PT uniform wear is here

Effective Sunday, Air Force physical training uniform wear is mandatory.

"Since the PT uniform was originally approved, many 'myths' have been born regarding the proper wear of the new uniform -- in example, saluting," said Maj. Jose Aleman, 14th Mission Support Squadron commander. "Saluting is not required while in PT uniform."

Other current guidance is as follows:

* When participating in organized PT, any combination of the approved PT gear (shorts, T-shirt, pants and jacket) may be worn, but may not be mixed with civilian clothes. At any other time, any PT uniform item may be worn with civilian clothes.

* According to the 14th Flying Training Wing commander, organized PT includes all organizational group PT and anytime servicemembers participate in individual PT during their normal duty hours.

* The PT shirt may be tucked in or out, and Airmen may wear short- or long-sleeve style Air Force shirt.

* Hair standards do not apply while working out; however, tattoo, body art and jewelry standards do apply.

* Spandex shorts and leggings (navy blue or black) may be worn under PT shorts. Full length leggings may be worn during cold weather periods.

* The jacket will be worn with a t-shirt and worn as needed. It may be zipped or unzipped. The hood will be stored and zipped when not worn.

* Pants leg zippers do not have to be zipped.

Although all hats and knit winter caps are authorized with the PT uniform, servicemembers will also have the option of sporting a cap with the BLAZE logo, which can be personalized with names and call signs. The caps may be purchased for $11 each and will be available at the Fitness Center soon.
