The Super Sonic Scramble held June 7 and 8 was a "super" success with 28 teams competing.

This two-day tournament is held every year in June and is open to the local community.

"This is our biggest tournament of the year and we count on good participation to ensure the success of the tournament, but our sponsors also play a vital part in its success. This year's sponsors were Sonic Drive-In on Highway 45 North, Premier Ford, The Office Sports Bar & Grill, Studdard Law Firm, Triangle Federal Credit Union, Carl Hogan Honda, Burtman Weightloss.com, Porter & Singley Family Dentistry, Ellis Construction, Cable One, and University Management Group," said Ricky Magers, golf pro and tournament director.

Magers added, "To allow everyone an even chance to be in the money, the field was divided into three flights after play on Saturday and the teams then competed in their respective flights to win honors as the top three teams. In the championship flight the scores ranged from 55 to 58, in the first flight it was from 59 to 64 and in the second flight the scores ranged from 65 to 76. This was one of the closest competitions we've have in all three flights, which in two flights there were ties that had to be broken by who played better on the hardest handicap holes."

The championship flight honors went to the defending championship team of Hal Larken, Jr., Arl Taylor, Jacob Gable and Zak Taylor with scores of 55 for Saturday and 54 for Sunday for a total of 109. Second place went to the team of George Hinnant, Scott Hinnant, Mark Randle and Albert McBrayer with scores of 57 and 53 for a total of 110. The third place team of Shasta Plunkett, Buddy Huffman, Bryan Lippincott and Craig Horrocks brought in scores of 55 and 58 for a total of 113.

In the first flight, first place was tied between the team of Sam Shoemake, Howard Ferguson, Jack Davis and Roger Wade with scores of 62 and 55 for a total of 117 and the team of Roger Hinshaw, Rich Hinshaw, Jack Kalfus and Darrell Petters with scores of 59 and 58 for a total of 117. The team of Shoemake, Ferguson, Davis and Wade took top honors on the playoff hole. The third place team of Chuck Jones, Doug Lee, Jason Wallace and Jason Vasser scores were 60 and 58 for a total of 118.

In the second flight, the team of Dean Roberts, Alton Scarbourgh, Kenny Pollard and Matt Stokes won first place with scores of 65 and 60 for a total of 125. The team of Mike Fowlkes, Rachel Kasic, Jeremy Wickham and Pam Wickham won second place with scores of 66 and 64 for a total of 130. The third place winners due to a playoff hole were James Forrester, Kevin Forrester, Heath Forrester and Gavin Yarbourgh with scores of 68 and 63 for a total of 131.
