The Air Education and Training Command Special Duty Team briefed a group of enlisted members at Columbus Air Force Base July 8 to inform them of the job opportunities in recruiting and training tomorrow's Airmen.

The Special Duty Team represents some of the special duty assignments available within the AETC command which includes recruiters, military training leaders and military training instructors.

Master Sgt. Monty Mitchell, a member of the Recruiter Screening Team spoke to attendees about various aspects of Air Force recruiting. He talked about the qualities required to be a recruiter, among them enthusiasm and resilience.

"If you're not a hard worker, it'll be the longest four years of your life," he said.

Sergeant Mitchell also talked about recruiter training, gave a glimpse of what being a recruiter is like and what special awards are available to recruiters. He also reminded attendees that the recruiter's assistance program is available once a year and encouraged using it as an opportunity to find out if recruiting would be a good fit.

The job of an MTL is primarily to lead, support, and continue training Airmen during their technical schools. MTLs were represented at the brief by Staff Sgt. Kevin Braden from Keesler AFB, Miss. He talked about the many requirements for becoming an MTL. He also spoke about MTL training, life, and responsibilities.

Staff Sgt. Carmen De Leon-Acosta, a member of the MTI recruiting team also spoke during the brief. She gave attendees an inside look at what the application process to become an MTI is like. She also told attendees what duties MTIs cover, and what that can involve.

Before ending the briefing for questions, Sergeant De Leon-Acosta gave a final piece of advice to those looking for one of the special duty assignments.

"Don't do any of these special duties because you want that $450, don't do it because you want the hat, don't do it for the rope, don't do it because you want to yell and scream," she said. "Do it for the right reasons."
