Civil Air Patrol cadets along with CAP leaders visited Columbus Air Force Base from July 12 to July 16 for a week of the Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training Familiarization Course.

The CAP cadets who attended the course spent the week getting a firsthand look at the everyday life of a student pilot. Cadets experienced physical training, reveille and retreat among many other events by sponsored by groups on base.

In addition to the military experience offered to the cadets, they were also expected to study basic aircraft knowledge and emergency procedure actions for the T-6 Texan. Tests were given to the cadets to evaluate their academic performance, and T-1 Jayhawk incentive rides for the top performers.

The course was more than military experience and academics for the CAP cadets. CAFB officers, many of whom are in current enrolled in Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training courses mentored the CAP cadets, providing valuable information.

Several events for fun and relaxation were also built into the SUPTFC. Cadets enjoyed pool parties and a bowling tournament against the CAP's senior staff.

The experience ended with a graduation banquet, where the cadets were able to revel in the completion of their respective courses.
