To the dismay of some, and the joy of others it's almost time to go back to school. As some will say preparation can go a long ways towards success, and Columbus Air Force Base is preparing to help others reach for that success.

E.J. Griffis, the 14th FTW School Liaison Officer, has been working with parents and schools to prepare children from kindergarten through 12th grade to return to school. Mr. Griffis does suggest that parents get involved with their children's school and help out with activities such as sports and other programs offered by the school.

"Be involved in all aspects of their education, parental involvement is great for a child's success" Mr. Griffis said.

The base's Youth Center will be hosting a back to school party on August 6 that with activities that center on going back to school. The party is free for Youth Center members, and membership has no cost.

Throughout the school year the Youth Center runs an after school program called the Power Hour. The Power Hour is designed to help kindergarteners to those in high school complete homework for points and at the end of every month if they have enough points they can attend a Power Hour party. The Power Hour runs Monday through Thursday and those working on homework can stay as late as 8:00 p.m.

The Youth Center can be contacted for more information about either program at (662) 434-2503.

Wing Safety is also working to prepare for the school year. They want to remind drivers to go slow in neighborhoods, watch for kids and to stop for school buses. Wing Safety will also be putting up signs by bus stops in Columbus AFB neighborhoods letting drivers know that school is starting and to be aware of the activities that come with it.
