AFMC/CC visits Columbus AFB Published Sept. 16, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Jacob Corbin 14th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The commander of Air Force Material Command recently visited Columbus Air Force Base and offered some advice and information for Team BLAZE members. Gen. Donald Hoffman came to Columbus AFB to speak at the 2010 Air Force Ball and visit the base he left in 1997 after serving as 14th Operations Group commander. While here, the general offered some tips for success for Team BLAZE members. - Know your job, whatever it may be. - Know the standards and live by them. - Always be curious. - Never be satisfied with "good enough." - Take time for families and yourself. - Bloom where you are planted, do the best you can at whatever job you currently have. General Hoffman also had some advice for a more specific Team BLAZE member - his 13 year-removed successor, new 14th OG Commander Col. Steven Stater. "Enjoy the tour," he said. "Empower the people below you. Get fully checked out in whatever aircraft you fly and start training students." AFMC develops, acquires and sustains the aerospace power needed to defend the United States and its interests for today and tomorrow. This is accomplished through management, research, acquisition, development, testing and maintenance of existing and future weapons systems and their components. General Hoffman said almost every product (whether an aircraft, uniform or system) on Columbus AFB has been touched by AFMC. He said some of the larger programs include T-1, T-38 and T-6 sustainment; and T-38 structure and repair issues.
