The commander of the 14th Flying Training Wing held officer's calls Jan. 3 in order to pass information on to both permanent party and students.

Col. Barre Seguin, 14th FTW commander, started out his commander's call by thanking the assembled Airmen for the lack of safety mishaps over the winter break.

"Thank you for being wingmen to each other," he said. "I commend you for it."

Colonel Seguin went on to describe how the wing's new mission statement - Produce Pilots, Advance Airmen and Feed the Fight - applied and impacted Team BLAZE.

"Anyone that comes here," Colonel Seguin said, "needs to know what the mission of this base is ... and how they fit into it."

Produce Pilots

"The phrase 'produce' was deliberately chosen," Colonel Seguin said. "To train a pilot just takes an instructor pilot and an aircraft ... but to produce a pilot, takes an entire team."

Colonel Seguin added it takes every member of Team BLAZE to ensure that we continue producing world-class military aviators.

Advance Airmen

"There are a variety of ways to advance Airmen," Colonel Seguin said. "We hope that the Airmen that arrive here are not the same ones that leave."

Colonel Seguin said Advancing Airmen covered a spectrum of things, from education and training, to mentorship and experience.

Feed the Fight

The wing commander said "Feed the Fight" does not just apply to the Airmen that Team BLAZE is consistently deploying to take part in overseas operations, but also to doing what we can to ensure the mission here is completed.

"Sometimes we need to apply calmly overwhelming expertise to ensure mission accomplishment," he said.

Leadership

"You are an officer in the United States Air Force, you are a leader" Colonel Seguin said. "Being a student, being a pilot, are secondary to being an officer and a leader."
