CAFB replaces telephone operator Published May 24, 2012 14th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- As the U.S. Air Force becomes an increasingly cost-conscious organization, many changes are being made to keep up with current constraints. Columbus Air Force Base made a change to the telephone operating system May 18 in compliance with Air Education and Training Command's order. During non-duty hours the telephone operator is now partially automated. This is a necessary change in order to still be able to maintain other currently available services in full. By Aug. 12 CAFB is slated to transition to a fully automated telephone operating system. The current schedule for the automated operator is: Monday through Friday 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Friday 4:30 p.m. to Monday 7:30 a.m. and holidays excluding AETC down days.
