February C3 Airman of the Month: Ordorica Published March 15, 2013 14th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Due to fiscal restraints many services and cuts have been made throughout the Air Force, affecting countless Airmen. Because of these problems, 1st Lt. Salvador Ordorica, 14th Civil Engineer Squadron Chief of Operational Support has been scouring CE contracts in search of ways to meet new standards set by Air Education and Training Command. Ordorica and his team (Tim Jackson, Maggy Wesley and Ricky Witherspoon, 14th Civil Engineer Squadron) found a way to reduce the current Furnishings Management Office service contract by $50,000 per year. Through the life of the contract, this equates to a savings of $250,000. He also helped develop a plan to meet or exceed AETC's requirement to save money on a grounds maintenance contract, and do it earlier than required. By changing this contract and meeting set milestones, the wing will save an estimated $190,000 per year, and two years sooner than required by the command. Finally, Ordorica came up with a way to eliminate any expense Columbus Air Force Base receives for laying mulch throughout the 35,000 sq. ft. of vegetative flower beds on base. Instead of purchasing new mulch every year, he proposed the base create its own using trees that are extracted from the base annually. This process will save the base approximately $3,000 per year.
