The Team BLAZE Diversity Day will be held tomorrow, Thursdday July 19th in the Walker Center beginning at 10:00 a.m. All base members invite to attend.
On July 17, 1969, 49 years ago today, Undergraduate Pilot Training class 71-01 began pilot training at Columbus AFB marking the beginning of the modern pilot training era here. Known as the "First of the Finest," after 53 weeks of training, 54 pilots graduated on July 18, 1970. In 1970, Columbus was 1 of 11 Air Force pilot training bases.
Yesterday airmen and community members gathered at the Columbus Club to attend Col. Anthony Sansano's, Columbus AFB 14 MSG Commander, Farewell breakfast. It was filled with many baseball gifts, inside jokes, and touching words. Columbus AFB is sad to say goodbye to Col. Sansano but grateful for the incredible impact he and his family has had on #TeamBLAZE. To say the Sansano's will be missed is an understatement. Col. Stan Lawrie, 14th Operations Group Commander, flew his last sortie with the 14th Flying Training Wing at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi last friday. He is soon off to his next assignment, but not before he got thrown in the traditional dunk tank! Thanks for leaving the 14th Operations Group better than you found it, Sir. You and Karen will be missed!
