At the beginning of this fiscal year Air Education and Training Command provided utility funding for only 11 of the 12 months. This was done in an effort to encourage each base to conserve energy to be able pay the last month utilities bill. The estimate of the savings required at the beginning of the fiscal year was $182,000. Due to savings measures already implemented and milder temperatures than expected, the shortfall for September is now estimated to be $115,000. Some of the measures already implemented include shutting down 28 of the 32 Visitor Center lights and half of the more than 200 street and parking lot lights.
Additional steps are required to save more utility funds over the next three months and these will require a team effort. The additional steps were agreed to by wing and group commanders July 9.
The measures include:
1. Changing the cooling set point from 76 to 79 degrees F in all facilities that do not have technical requirements that require lower set points.
2. Shutting down all non-mission critical equipment after hours including computers, monitors, speakers, copiers and printers.
3. Shutting down half of the apron lights eight hours per night.
4. Shutting down the sauna at base gym.
We need your help to attain our savings goal. The diligence of each building manager and each individual is required to make this initiative a success. Even having electrical equipment in sleep mode consumes energy. By working together the BLAZE Team can save energy and get us closer to meeting our goal.
