The Combined Federal Campaign has kicked off at Columbus AFB and will run through Oct. 19.

The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of Federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations. The mission of the CFC is to support and to promote philanthropy through voluntary program that is employee- focused and effective in providing all Federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. Donations are received on a voluntary basis.

Those that donate money will be able to choose the charity that they wish to contribute to. This designation is made on the pledge form that is filled out. However, participants cannot donation to a charity that is not on the Charity List. For those that wish to not specify a donation to a particular charity, the funds that are donated will be distributed evenly to all organizations listed in the CFC Charity List.

Donors will be able to make contributions through a payroll deduction. Last year, more than 90 percent of all CFC funds came from payroll deductions. Payments on payroll deduction pledges will begin on the first pay period beginning in January and conclude the last pay period of December.

In 2006, Federal employees raised more than $271.6 million for charitable causes around the world.
