Team BLAZE welcomes new Inspector General Published May 12, 2017 By Airman 1st Class Beaux Hebert 14th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- There is a new face in the seat of the Inspector General’s office and he plans to continue ensuring that Team BLAZE is running smooth.Lt. Col. John Sullivan, 14th FTW Inspector General, has joined the BLAZE community from his last assignment at Anderson Air Force Base, Guam. “As a native Mississippian, it is great to be a part of this community,” Sullivan said.Sullivan wants the community to know his team is always available to anyone, regardless of their status as a service member, civilian, dependent, contractor or other BLAZE members. He says he is very approachable even in his off time.“I live on base in Capitol Village and can be frequently found at the dog park,” Sullivan said. “Anyone can approach me with anything, even in my off time.”As for new changes, Sullivan is looking at things from a fresh perspective. The IG team’s goal is to continue working towards improving the base and help Team BLAZE be the best it can be.“Regarding self-inspections, it is important to identify deficiencies in your squadron and ‘embrace the red,’” Sullivan said. “This serves as a great tool to make your unit better, but it is important that you don’t continue to ‘live in the red.’”The IG has two primary focuses which are complaints and inspections.“We serve as the eyes and ears of the Wing Commander,” Sullivan said.The IG team are responsible for the Commander’s Inspection Program where they are charged with identifying undetected non-compliance so that it can be fixed in order to make the unit more effective.The team is also responsible for filing complaints. They ensure the existence of responsive investigations and fraud, waste and abuse programs that are characterized by objectivity, integrity and impartiality. You can file a complaint by stopping by Building 724, Room 103 and talking face to face, emailing the IG at 14ftw.ig@us.af.mil, mail a letter, sliding a note underneath their door, calling an IG hotline or contacting a Member of Congress.“Regardless of the issue, come see us and we will assist you,” Sullivan said. “If our office is not the appropriate venue to take action on your complaint, we will ensure it gets to the proper place.”
